Concert Hall is the 21st Gr1 winner for Savabeel finishing best in Saturday’s Zabeel Classic (2000m) at Ellerslie and the third SW on the day for the stallion.
Concert Hall was back last turning for home but then came widest of to finish best of all and defeat Supera (Savabeel) a neck with longtime leader In A Twinkling (Fastnet Rock) a head away third.
It is the fifth Group win from 23 starts for the Joan Egan-homebred, previously Gr1 placed in the Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham.
She is the only foal to race out of Classic Legacy (Carnegie), a winner of four races in New Zealand and a half-sister to Listed-placed Lyn’s Legacy (Sir Tristram).
The granddam Super Sound (Sound Reason) won at two in New Zealand and finished runner-up in the Listed Champagne Stakes at Otago. She a sister to New Zealand Listed winners Sequel Sound and Ultra Sound and a half-sister to Gr1 South Australian oaks winner Lee’s Bid (Tawfiq), the dam of Gr1 Victoria Derby and Canterbury Guineas winner Arena (Danehill).
Savabeel has enjoyed good success with mares by Carnegie (Sadler’s Wells) from only a small sample of runners.
There are 18 named foals by Savabeel out of daughters of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner for four stakes winners – Concert Hall, the Gr2 winning brothers Savvy Nature and Addictive Nature and the Listed winning filly Queen Sabeel.
Savabeel has also done well with mares carrying Sadler’s Wells win their pedigree. The three-time Gr1 winner Lucia Valentina is out of a mare by Montjeu and one of three group winners on this cross, Gr1 winner Hall Of Fame is out of a Galileo mare and Savabeel has Group winners out of mares by Singspiel and Entrepreneur.
Concert Hall’s win capped a highly successful for Waikato Stud’s champion stallion Savabeel who was also represented by Uncle Remus Stakes (1400m) winner Brando (SW107) and Gr2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) winner Amarelinha (SW108).
