Winning Partner is SW12 for Dawn Approach after winning Wednesday’s Balaklava Cup (1600m).
Settled towards the rear early following a slow start, Winning Partner was still worse than midfield before the home turn but once navigated out into running room came with a sustained run to defeat Analytica (Shocking) and Savatoxl (Kuroshio) going away.
It is the fifth win for the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Winning Partner, a $110,000 Magic Millions Adelaide yearling.
Winning Partner is a half-brother to two winners including the Perth winner Route Eighty Eight, their dam Lady Frere (Johannesburg), a winning half-sister to Listed Adelaide Guineas winner General Peekay (General Nediym).
The granddam Barberton (Flying Spur) won in Sydney.
Champion European 2yo colt of 2012, 2000 Guineas winner Dawn Approach is advertised at €10,000 at Kildangan Stud in Ireland in 2020.
