Tabata is SW112 for Savabeel getting there in the last stride to win Monday’s Wairarapa Breeders’ Stakes (1600m) at Tauherenikau.
Well back to the home turn, Tabata came with a big finish to get up and nab Cruz Ramirex (Myboycharlie) on the line to score.
It is the third win from 10 starts for the four-year-old, a $100,000 NZB Premier yearling and raced by New Zealand test cricketer Brendon McCullum under his Vermair Stud banner.
Tabata is one of three winners to date for Splitsecond (Pins), a winner in New Zealand and Listed-placed in the Sunline Vase at Ellerslie.
The granddam Lowland (Centaine) a winning sister to Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes at Rosehill winner Sixty Seconds and Gr2 Manawatu Classic winner Spottswoode.
Lowland is also a sister to Wait A Minute, the winning granddam of Listed winner It;s Time For Magic (Per Incanto).
Savabeel (Zabeel) has Gr1 winners Probabeel, Brambles and Savvy Coup out of mares by Pins. He was advertised at $100,000 at Waikato Stud last season.
